Last minute bookings and plans and yes, my holiday begins on Sunday the 25th. Oh la la and what a holiday. I won’t be posting much till October but I do promise that this time I’ll write a lot about the places, the people, the experiences, the arts and the food(especially the food). About Venice, about the architecture Biennale, about Japan and all its wonders, about Berlin and all its parties, about Edinburgh and all its history. Bratislava, Amsterdam and a few Romanian hidden gems to end on a high.

Until then, I’ll leave you with this gorgeous song:

The Plastiki adventures

The Plastiki boad adventure had started at the intiative of David de Rothschild of Adventure Ecology and has been designed by Exploration Architecture. What is the Plastiki boat? Well, the clue’s in the title, a ‘boat made of bundles of bottles that are wrapped in a shell of fibreglass-like material, itself made entirely from recycled plastic bottles.’

It’s been designed to be¬† fully recyclable at the end of its journey, produce all its own energy and create no pollution. The boat is nearing the end of its journey across the Pacific Ocean from San Francisco to Sydney to highlight pollution of the seas.

While I can definitely see the travel journal of this project fit for a Wes Anderson film, it is a strong statement about how we treat what we cannot see. And more than that, it provides viable solutions that with a bit of thought could be easily upscaled. It’s all about good design, folks…

P.s.: Do check the bigger versions of the boards explaining the vitals of the boat.

For a minute there I lost myself, I lost myself, I lost myself

“You get a strange feeling when you’re about to leave a place”, I told him. ”Like you’ll not only miss the people, but you’ll miss the person you are now at this time and this place, because you’ll never be this way ever again.”
