Robert Montgomery‘s work echoes the Situationist concept of détournement(deflection, diversion, rerouting, distortion, misuse, misappropriation, hijacking, or otherwise turning something aside from its normal course or purpose) through a series of melancholic posters that cover advertising billboards. Parasitically, the white colour of the type uses the fluorescent lights of the advertising panels. His series of altered neon signs uses the medium of recycled sunlight – the sculptures capture the sunlight during the day through solar cells and emanate it during the night.
